The First Law of Motion
So... Imagine that there is a red rubber kickball, just sitting there, in the middle of the school playground. The ball is not moving and just sits still, but then your best friend runs up and kicks the ball. I goes Flying! You watch as the red kick ball land back on the ground and you notice that... Hey... it still moving, and it just keeps on rolling...and rolling...Until something stops it. You may not know it, but this is what Iassic Newton's first law of motion is all about!
Newton tell us in his first law that if you, for example, had a ball sitting still, it will not move until something moving hits it! This is the same for a moving ball. The moving ball will keep going… and going in the same speed and direction until… something makes it stop!
Original Newton's First Law: An object at rest tends to stay at rest and an object in motion tends to stay in motion with the same speed and the same direction unless, acted upon by an unbalanced force.
